International Year One in General

Overview

The International Year One leads to a wide range of undergraduate degrees at the University.

Key information

This is a 2-semester program that will be tailored to prepare you for your chosen undergraduate degree. This program eases the transition to US undergraduate study by combining credit-bearing courses from the first year of your degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to your academic and language level, and cultural experiences, helping ensure your future success.

  • At the University of Illinois Chicago, international students will be in the heart of one of the most culturally and economically diverse cities in the US, with a welcoming campus, vibrant culture and cuisines, and multiple sectors seeking international students for both internships and jobs.
  • UIC prioritizes career development from day one: Freshmen engineering students get guaranteed paid internships, more than 30 local Fortune 500 companies recruit on campus, and students have access to the third-largest research and development lab in Chicago.
  • There is no better place to study architecture and design than UIC: In addition to innovative curriculum and engaging faculty, the university’s prime location gives international students up-close access to Chicago’s world-renowned skyline.
