Overview

International Year One in engineering will prepare students to enter their next semester of a bachelor's degree program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Award

This program leads to a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering through the School of Engineering at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Why The University of Alabama at Birmingham?

  • Students are immediately exposed to the engineering design process as freshmen.
  • UAB has a dedicated Undergraduate Design Laboratory with computer-controlled milling machines/lathes to provide cutting-edge equipment for students to engage in engineering design.
  • The Undergraduate UAB Biomedical Engineering is the only biomedical engineering program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET in the state of Alabama.
  • Students choose from one- to three-semester Pathway programs.
  • Students are fully admitted to UAB provided successful completion of conditional admission criteria at the end of the Pathway and submission of all required admission credentials.

High school diploma; Minimum 2.0 GPA or 55% Gaokao score in each province.

Language Requirements

TOEFL 60, IELTS 5.5, PTEA 44+, Completion of Academic English Level 4, Password overall Level 6, IELA 162, Duolingo 90, or GaoKao 110.

Progression Requirements

Minimum 2.2 cumulative UAB GPA. 80% Minimum in all required ELI courses. C or better in all courses. No grades of I (Incomplete) or W (WIthdrawn) permitted. Students must test into at least MA 105.

CH 115: Students also need to register for CH 116: Chemistry Lab; must meet math requirements to take CH 115/116.
