International Foundation in Arts, Humanities, Law and Social Sciences

Overview

The International Foundation Year is designed for international students who would like to study an undergraduate degree at Cardiff University. If you don't have the grades required for direct entry, you need to practise your English, or you just want a softer start to your university experience, it could be a great choice for you.

Key information

The International Foundation Year prepares you for university with English language and study skills practice, as well as subject-specific teaching. When you complete the programme, you will progress to the first year of your undergraduate degree. This pathway allows you to progress to degrees in subjects including English, Journalism, History, Politics and many more. You choose a route depending on which undergraduate degree you plan to study. There are three routes: Law, Arts and Humanities and Social Science. Which route you choose impacts the modules you will study.

  • With a Cardiff University degree, you’ll be amongst the UK’s most sought-after graduates. 96% of our graduates were in employment and/or further study, due to start a new job or course, or doing other activities, such as travelling (Graduate Outcomes Survey 2019/20).
  • As an undergraduate, you’ll work alongside international scholars at the forefront of their subject, studying in a vibrant, research-intensive environment. You’ll be given a flavour of the research activities going on within your subject and will have the opportunity to take part in learning activities influenced by staff research interests. For example, optional modules based on staff research interest may be offered and case studies or experiments used in class may derive from live research projects.
  • You’ll also have the chance to contribute to a research project through paid work experience as part of our on-campus internship opportunities.
